Our nurses at Glynde are qualified to perform ear micro-suctioning
How micro-suction ear cleaning works
Micro-suction is a gentle, professional, water free way to remove earwax, dry skin or infection.
This is the same method used by Ear, Nose & Throat specialist doctors, without the need for a referral.
Here’s how it works:
Funnel
A small metal funnel is placed gently in your ear canal. The nurse practitioner uses this with binocular glasses fitted with a bright light or a microscope to see your ear canal up close.
Microscope
Ear suction may be used to remove earwax or objects from the ear canal. The nurses can see into the ear at all times making the treatment safe and effective.
Suction
Ear suction is carried out with a small sucker attached to a low-pressure machine that works like a gentle vacuum cleaner. The nurses may also use fine instruments (like tiny scoops) to help remove wax.
Preparation
2 consecutive nights before your appointment, 4-5 drops of olive oil is required to be put in both ears. This is to ensure the wax has soften enough for the nurses to remove in the one appointment. If the preparation is not completed, this may result in another follow up appointment for further removal.
